I'd like to posit a third, integral theory: the Stoned AND horny ape... fucking while high on mushrooms? Most highly plausible :)

I'm most curious about your conclusion and what is meant.

"Rather than dancing like puppets on the strings of indifferent evolution, we can untie those strings and begin to stand on our own two feet.

We can hot-wire evolution."

This reminds me of Richard Dawkins' concept of a meme in evolution. Looking forward to a future post!

Yeah, that point was more developed in last book but in a nutshell is this: evolution threw the kitchen sink at pair bonding and procreation We all had to do it NO MATTER WHAT without any instruction manual for millions of years Those crazy strong impulses and incentives wreak havoc with our morals, relationships and best intentions causing all sorts of trauma chaos violence and suffering (plus babies) If we can understand the neuro chemical priming and forces that compel us, we can do a judo move and use that very same rocket fuel to shoot the moon instead of going down in flames

I am going to double down on the combo mentioned above by JB in the comments, a bit of a “turbo” charge for Stoned and Horned Ape behaviors fueling exponential growth …HOWEVER, would love to hear from our women readers and creatives in this regard as our evolution was also a collective experience. Mysteries prevail here…

Thanks for asking (I believe this puts you in the category of “sensitive, caring man”).

Women likely didn’t have much say in this equation. Cave men, horned up, grabbed their favorite female receptacle, and pounded it home.

Amping up the sex drive (recreational sex) is simply of biological import … creating higher chances of reproduction.

Naw, not thinking women got to stylize their mates into masterful lovers. In fact, that’s even challenging today.

I suppose Bonobos missed the mushrooms, or maybe they didn't need them and that which you speak about is true for them...just being is plenty good. I wonder if they found mushrooms and had time left where they'd be....

Wow!! If only it was as simple as that.

Well, bonobos are horny AF (read Sex at Dawn if you haven't). I reckon losing our fur and having to innovate and clothe ourselves may have played a role too. Suddenly we could choose the environment we inhabited, rather than being restricted physiologically. I explored the possibility here: https://open.substack.com/pub/shonistar/p/on-nudity?r=9fely&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web&showWelcomeOnShare=true

Michael WINKELMAN has many interesting papers and presentations on the subject of altered consciousness and its importance on the development of shamanism and proto religion. Add to that conversation James McCLENON writing on Homo sapiens selecting for hypnosis and suggestibility and you have the whole religious and cultural edifice that we cannot see for the trees.

Dear Jamie Wheal,

Reed Kinney writes, “It must not be overlooked that Human biology has always been the source of intellect. Technology is not the determining factor of human consciousness. Language, art, (music) and mythology are spontaneous attributes of the complexity that is the human mind. There was no technological evolution throughout the Archaic through the Paleolithic upon which intellect was contingent. Despite the long-term repetition of design of some archaic peoples, the evidence for symbolism, engravings, is not writing, but the degree of chemical complexity of the symbolic, human mind would have been identical to that of a literate civilization. Language, art and mythology are spontaneous attributes of the human mind to which culture is inherent. The components of civilization are art, music, mythology, and technology. The source of culture is inherent to our genus. (Concepts, Jeremy Campbell, Grammatical Man, 1982) Jeremy Campbell demonstrates that “...the human mind [is] able to innovate on its own terms... creating ...originating.”....

“Archaic man already possessed the foundation of a brain so highly organized, so various, so full of possibilities” (Jeremy Campbell). (1) [Reed C. Kinney]

Note, 1: Grammatical Man: Information, Entropy, Language, and Life is a 1982 book written by Jeremy Campbell, p. 158

A lot of people are untying those strings. Its a requirement to navigate the modern world effectively.

For maximum effect: 5 dried grams in silent darkness in nature alone.
